Giving tithes, donations, and offerings is an expression of our obedience, faith, and dedication to God. When we give, we acknowledge that everything we have ultimately comes from Him, and we choose to honor Him with what He has placed in our hands.

The Apocrypha teaches us:

(Sirach 3:30) “Water will quench a flaming fire; and alms maketh an atonement for sins.”

Giving is an act of righteousness. It is obedience. It is worship. It demonstrates that our hearts are not attached to the things of this world, but are committed to walking according to the ways of God.

Scripture also reminds us that obedience carries blessings:

(Deuteronomy 28:1–2) “If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God.”

And we are reminded:

(Proverbs 3:9) “Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.”

When God has blessed us, we should never forget the One from whom those blessings came. Giving back to God is one of the ways we demonstrate our gratitude, our faithfulness, and our commitment to putting Him first.
